Central Heating Installation in Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and South Devon
Barnes Heating Services Ltd are specialists in heating system design and installation. We have the experience to guide you through the process of choosing and installing your heating system efficiently and cost-effectively. We will recommend a manufacturer and product based on a number of fasctors such as reliability, warranty consideration and your budget.
Choosing a heating system for your new build home or renovation project will depend on what systems you currently have in place such as:
Heat Source:
This could be a boiler or renewable energy system such as an air sourced heat pump.
If you do not have a heat source already we can give you the best advice on the best type of heat source for your home and to your budget.
Radiators or Underfloor Heating?
Deciding whether to go for underfloor heating or radiators will depend on your personal taste and budget. Whilst underfloor heating is becoming more popular due to its ultimate comfort, efficiency and extended room space, radiators are now available in a range of styles which can give your home the modern look.
We can provide you with a variety of choices from trusted manufacturers to help you make your choice.
Hot Water Cylinders:
If you have a Combi boiler you will not need a hot water cylinder, if you do not have this you will need to have one installed. There are two types of hot water cylinders:
- Vented hot water cylinder
- Unvented (pressurised) hot water cylinder
Choosing the right hot water cylinder and the correct size depends on the type of heating system you currently have, how strong your mains pressure is, and the size of your home. We can evaluate all of these factors to help you make the right choice for your home.
Controlling Your Heating System:
Smart thermostats are a new bit of kit that connects your heating system to the internet – letting you adjust the temperature or switch your heating on or off using your smartphone, tablet or computer.
Remember that these are different from smart meters!
They typically work with most boilers – including standard gas boilers, heating oil and electric boilers – but not all. At Barnes Heating Services we can advise residents of Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and the South Hams on the best smart thermostat to suit your needs and budget.
LPG Gas or Oil – Making the Right Choice in Rural Areas
If you live in a rural area with no mains gas supply then you LPG or oil might be the simplest option for cantral heating and hot water in your home. Barnes Heating Services are experienced and qualified in insatalling LPG and oil heating throughout Torbay and South Devon.
Read our guide to help you make the right choice for your home:
How does oil heating work?
Whether you opt for a heating oil or LPG boiler, they both work in a similar way to a gas boiler. The main difference is that the fuel used is stored on site. The fuel is used to heat water in the boiler, which can then be used for hot water or for central heating.
Oil or LPG?
Heating oil is a liquid and is generally a bit cheaper than LPG. The advantage in LPG is that you can use it as a fuel for your oven and hob, or gas fire, whereas heating oil is to the boiler only. The boiler itself is very similar, but the important differences come with the costs of the fuels.
How expensive is oil?
A typical heating oil or LPG system will be more expensive to run than an equivalent grid based gas system. Of course, it is not always possible to get mains gas in your property, and for those people, oil is an effective way to heat your property. Where a unit of gas might be around 3.5p/kW, a unit of heating oil is more expensive at around 6p/kW, and a unit of LPG is even more at 6.5-7p/kW.
How much do they cost to install?
Boiler installation will cost a similar amount to a gas boiler install. The tanks installation can be subsidised or paid for by the fuel supplier, however this may leave you tied to that supplier so careful costing is required. Barnes Heating Services can help you weigh up the options here.
