Central Heating  Installation in Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and South Devon

Barnes Heating Services Ltd are specialists in heating system design and installation. We have the experience to guide you through the process of choosing and installing your heating system efficiently and cost-effectively. We will recommend a manufacturer and product based on a number of fasctors such as reliability, warranty consideration and your budget.

Choosing a heating system for your new build home or renovation project will depend on what systems you currently have in place such as:

Heat Source:

This could be a boiler or renewable energy system such as an air sourced heat pump.

If you do not have a heat source already we can give you the best advice on the best type of heat source for your home and to your budget.

Radiators or Underfloor Heating?

Deciding whether to go for underfloor heating or radiators will depend on your personal taste and budget. Whilst underfloor heating is becoming more popular due to its ultimate comfort, efficiency and extended room space, radiators are now available in a range of styles which can give your home the modern look.

We can provide you with a variety of choices from trusted manufacturers to help you make your choice.

Hot Water Cylinders:

If you have a Combi boiler you will not need a hot water cylinder, if you do not have this you will need to have one installed. There are two types of hot water cylinders:

  • Vented hot water cylinder
  • Unvented (pressurised) hot water cylinder

Choosing the right hot water cylinder and the correct size depends on the type of heating system you currently have, how strong your mains pressure is, and the size of your home. We can  evaluate all of these factors to help you make the right choice for your home.

Controlling Your Heating System:

Smart thermostats are a new bit of kit that connects your heating system to the internet – letting you adjust the temperature or switch your heating on or off using your smartphone, tablet or computer.

Remember that these are different from smart meters!

They typically work with most boilers – including standard gas boilers, heating oil and electric boilers – but not all. At Barnes Heating Services we can advise residents of Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and the South Hams on the best smart thermostat to suit your needs and budget.

LPG Gas or Oil – Making the Right Choice in Rural Areas

If you live in a rural area with no mains gas supply then you LPG or oil might be the simplest option for cantral heating and hot water in your home. Barnes Heating Services are experienced and qualified in insatalling LPG and oil heating throughout Torbay and South Devon.

Read our guide to help you make the right choice for your home:

How does oil heating work?

Whether you opt for a heating oil or LPG boiler, they both work in a similar way to a  gas boiler. The main difference is that the fuel used is stored on site. The fuel is used to heat water in the boiler, which can then be used for hot water or for central heating.

Oil or LPG?

Heating oil is a liquid and is generally a bit cheaper than LPG. The advantage in LPG is that you can use it as a fuel for your oven and hob, or gas fire, whereas heating oil is  to the boiler only. The boiler itself is very similar, but the important differences come with the costs of the fuels.

How expensive is oil?

A typical heating oil or LPG system will be more expensive to run than an equivalent grid based gas system. Of course, it is not always possible to get mains gas in your property, and for those people, oil is an effective way to heat your property. Where a unit of gas might be around 3.5p/kW, a unit of heating oil is more expensive at around 6p/kW, and a unit of LPG is even more at 6.5-7p/kW.

How much do they cost to install?

Boiler installation will cost a similar amount to a gas boiler install. The tanks installation can be subsidised or paid for by the fuel supplier,  however this may leave you tied to that supplier so careful costing is required. Barnes Heating Services can help you weigh up the options here.

We were so impressed with Jack, Becky, and all the engineers at Barnes Heating Services Ltd. Nothing was too much... trouble. My mother is elderly and her boiler broke down leaving her with no heating and hot water. Jack sent an engineer around the same day and sadly we needed a new boiler. Even though they were fully booked up for the next month Jack managed to move things around in order to accommodate us and the new boiler was fitted and up and running within a couple of days. Dan the engineer was exceptionally professional, friendly and tidy along with his charming apprentice and my mother was very reassured and impressed. I would not hesitate to recommend Barnes Heating Ltd to anyone and everyone. We were very blessed to find such a wonderful local company and will definitely be using them again. Many thanks to all at Barnes for turning what could have been a disaster into a pleasure.!read more

We recently used this company to replace our 1970s back boiler. From start to finish, they were professional and... helpful, and did a great job.Becky was lovely to deal with and every engineer that we have met has been brilliant. We were given a range of quotes, for various boiler replacements/ heating options. Jack was very honest and advised that we would not need the most expensive option, and explained the differences between gas and electric heating so that we could make a decision. We were given our quotes and then left to decide with no pressure at all, and once we were ready proceeded with the work.We chose to replace the ancient boiler with an immersion heater and remove all outdated gas heaters, in preparation for installing electric panel heaters in the near future. There were one or two obstacles once the job began but everything was done to a very high standard and left cleans tidy. All rubbish was taken away and the carpets were protected. Will be using this company again, would highly recommend!read more

I contacted Barnes back in December about replacing my aging Worcester boiler and was immediately impressed with their... responsiveness: Becky called the next day (on New Year's Eve no less) to pick a date for an inspection and quotation. I was given sound advice and they were not childish in recommending a slightly less expensive brand, Baxi. That boiler was installed last week over the course of two days and both George and Jack did excellent work, keeping us in the loop during the installation if there was anything they needed or had questions about, discussing options, cleaning up after themselves at the end of each day, taking away the old boiler, removing superfluous parts of the previous installation, and securing some pipes. Two of their colleagues even came back the next day to secure the flue in the loft space as they didn't have the correct bracket with them on the day (something not strictly necessary but required by building regulations), showing a clear care for the quality of the job they deliver. I have placed this boiler in maintenance with them and look forward to calling on them again when the need arises. Thoroughly recommend them.read more

I have used this plumber company a few times now, and on all occasions I have had exemplary service. One of my... experiences with them was when I had an expected gas leak. They came out out hastily with an emergency slot that I believe they keep open for cases like this. The plumber, who was very professional and polite, identified the problem within minutes of arriving, it was a leaking rubber flu cap that had just unseated itself and it was exhaust fumes that I could smell (which can smell similar to had). He still check with some specialised equipment and as there was a minimum emergency call out booking (as with most companies) he include a service on the boiler to make up for the call out that was sorted so promptly. I Highly, highly recommend these plumbers!read more
